LED modules and this technology are characterized by the following features:

• this is an active technology - display element emits light energy which reaches an observer.
• no need for external illumination - due to its active nature LED displays do not require external illumination - oppositely, any strong external light may decrease contrast and visibility.
• good visibility in many ranges of external illumination - LED displays are very well visible in such a light conditions which can be “overcome” by light energy coming from LEDs. That is why it is so critical to choose right combination of brightness / beam angle for a given application.
• Fast operation - LED switching time is very short therefore it is possible to display animations and other dynamic effects.
• Multi colours - LED technology allows to construct multi colour signs. So called “full colour” signs allows to show 16 mln colours.
• High power consumption - one should be aware that power consumption of LED signs can reach a few KW/ sq.m for high colour / large resolution signs.

Every display is characterized with the following parameters:

• resolution - i.e. size in pixels;
• pitch - a distance between center points of neighbour pixels;
• number of LEDs per pixel;
• colours of LEDs in pixel - for example 1R2PG means one red, two pure green;
• application - indoor , outdoor and semi-outdoor;
• type of technology used - surface mount (SMD), hole through (lamp), low brightness modules (dot matrix);
• brightness of each pixel;
• viewing angle / beam angle of one pixel;
• brightness of one sq. m..
